Basel Downstream, 2023

Two-channel digital film installation; 32:9 aspect ratio; 29’ loop

As the main artery running through the heart of Basel, Switzerland, the Rhine river is alive with a steady and constantly changing flow of urban programs and activities. The installation presents a pair of ultra-wide 8K cinematic images on opposing walls, gently floating past a sequence of diverse urban typologies ranging from medieval buildings and green spaces, to industrial sites and corporate office parks. Bridges and tributary rivers connect the two sides of the river in a unified whole. The single-channel version presented on this site is designed for mobile devices: with the display locked in portrait orientation, each side of the river can be viewed horizontally by simply rotating the device.
