Maris Mezulis is a Canadian photographer, filmmaker, and visual artist. His work explores patterns and typologies, ways of seeing, visual phenomena, and dimensions of architecture.
Mezulis studied cinema at York University in Toronto. Between 1999-2003 he worked with Bruce Mau Design creating moving-image installations which appeared at Vitra Design Museum (Basel), MAK Museum (Vienna), Gulbenkian Museum (Lisbon), Mori Art Museum (Tokyo), and the Power Plant (Toronto).
Establishing independent practice in 2003, Mezulis worked in continuous collaboration with leading practitioners of architecture, design, and the arts. His photography has appeared in countless books and magazines such as Wallpaper, Casabella, Frame, and New York Times T: Magazine.
In parallel, questions about the visual representation of architecture and the perceptual effects of spatial images expanded into films, loops and installations, some of which have appeared at venues such as the Toronto International Film Festival and the Venice Architecture Biennale.
More recently, experiments with light and moving image within envelopes of physical and electronic space question the effects of technology on human cognition and consciousness.
